Carolynn and Doug were one the last few Big Island Sunset weddings I photographed on the Big before the world changed. Sometimes it gives me a bit of anxiety watching people without masks due to an ingrained fear of the pandemic. So just to be safe, I feel like need to put out a disclaimer for anyone reading this is 2021: this was a pre-pandemic event.
This day was unusually crazy windy and stormy on the Big Island. I was crossing everything in me to wish for the clouds to blow the other way and the rain to hold out until after the sunset. But even in the pouring rain, nothing was going to get in the way of the immense love and beauty of this wedding day! The warmth from their families and the intense devotion Carolynn and Doug had for each other trumped the gray skies and the showers that came in the middle of the ceremony.
We were then blessed with not just a beautiful rainbow over the south Kohala but also one of the most stunning sunsets I have ever photographed! The couple danced their first dance on their wedding day in that glorious golden Kona sunset! Check out the photos from their day below!
