James really valued privacy for this special moment. So I made sure to suggest locations that had the elements he wanted but also have that private feel. All the beaches in Hawaii are public—you just have to find a not so crowded one. Although Kukio is normally quiet, it’s not uncommon to find it busy with other shoots! I have stumbled upon an elopement (or two) and a family session (or three!) at the beach also looking for that very same quiet and private-feeling location. There was no room for error so we decided on a spot in the middle of the beach, past the pile of black lava rocks. Hardly anyone makes it all the way over there from the parking lot! And so there I was waiting and sweating like a ninja behind the bushes. WORTH IT!

I do not know what it is about proposals but I feel like I am just as nervous as the person who is about to propose! The anticipation of it all fills me with was too much excitement for an hour! But they are so fun and to get to capture that 100% surprise reaction is worth a million bucks! Getting to share and capture such an intimate and momentous event in a couple’s journey is nothing short of amazing!
