Big Island Hawaii Engagement Photographer | Waikoloa Beach
October is a HUGE month on Hawaii but particularly to the the Big Island! Something really big happens here every year, typically around the middle of the month! Every year tens of thousands of athletes vie to be on a short list of about a couple thousand of THE WORLD’S BEST! Wanna take a guess?? Yep, It is the World Ironman Championship!
On Ironman day, most of the island’s west coast highway from Kona all the way to Hawi shuts down as it becomes the ~226 km race course. It is almost impossible to go anywhere up until the last of the athletes have completed nearly the entire race. In addition, so many people come to watch these superhumans battle it out to be the world’s best! It is honestly just amazing to watch them go by on the bike race.
I usually do not schedule shoots on Ironman day. But in 2019, I completely forgot about it! L-O-L Lucky me, Diana and James (who had been in this same race a few years prior) were super understanding and were luckily staying the Waikoloa resort which was easily accessible from my location. All it took was for me to cross the highway to get to them through a break in the bike course.
And boy was I glad we made this day work because the sunset was super freaking magical! Congratulations guys! All the best to wedding planning your magical day 🙂 Phew! This Hawaii engagement session is a success!
