In 2019 I made a major shift into weddings and elopements photography from Big Island family photography. More so than any other year in the past. I had to cut back to less than half of my normal family and maternity photography load. This made me more intentional in the clients that I took on. Lifestyle photography with major focus on emotive and landscape imagery became a major factor in my shooting style this year. I have honed in on my brand and the kind of product I want my clients to receive.
I focused on a more storytelling session to capture natural emotions, movements and moments. Because most of my families are here on vacation, I want them to go home with photographs that not only show the beauty of Hawaii but also photographs full of love and joy! I want them to have images that remind them of their time in Hawaii for years and years to come.
And while I will never stop taking on family and maternity photography work, this year I am cutting back a bit more than last year. On top of that, I now take extended family sessions on a case-by-case basis. Because of the nature of my shooting style, these types of sessions really limits my time to spend with a core family and get to those images that not only fill my creative cup but are the images I long to create and deliver to my families. Lastly, the limited spots I have each month means that they sell out quite fast and I am more unlikely to take last minute inquiries.
